Running the Kraul

Danielf, Thomasusel, Cyniar, Danielf's cat, and Alisara in Dustwallow MarshThis weekend, one of the guys from my LAN group couldn't make our gaming night, so we decided to make it an alt session. I hadn't actively played my alt Alisara (a level 35 paladin) for a couple of weeks, so at the beginning of the gaming session, I felt like I was driving a new car: I was slower and more cautious than usual, and things weren't where I expected them to be. So we checked around for a slightly lower level instance to take on so we could reacquaint ourselves with our alts, and we decided on Razorfen Kraul. We'd never been there, and thought it would be a good challenge for just the four of us. We experimented with a more hierarchical group structure, too - since our mains are starting to look at endgame, we're trying to develop good party leadership skills.

Despite our slight handicaps, Razorfen Kraul gave us very little trouble - I easily fell back into the paladin healing role, and it probably took us about an hour and a half or so to clear it out. One thing that was interesting to me was watching one of my friends in the LAN group play his druid. We swapped a few tips, but the way we play our druids is very different - and yet each style works. The versatility of the class just continues to amaze me.

And speaking of my druid Amura, I ended up doing the instance with a group of Pod People the next day. As usual, it was an awesome group. Here's a picture of us at the end with all of our pets, some Snufflenose gophers that we used for a quest, and Willix the Importer, an NPC we had to escort out of the instance. Many thanks to Malcidius for the healing, Silvercloud for the tanking, and Swert (Mewgai) for all the warlocky goodness - even though Life Tap still worries the bejesus out of me!

Hello world!

Well everyone around me seems to be starting up blogs, so I figure I may as well follow the crowd. (I'm such a lemming!) Anyway, I'm going to mostly dedicate this one to my recreational life - gaming, sports, and that kind of thing, with a little bit of real life thrown in.

The game that I've been focussing on lately is World of Warcraft. One of the guys in my LAN gaming group introduced us all to it back in Oct 2005, and we messed around with it a bit until we settled on a server (Staghelm). We're a 5-man group, which as it turns out is the perfect size for the game. Det, the guildmaster of our old guild Eternal Honor (R.I.P.), dubbed us the Fantastic 5 and the nickname stuck. Now we've gotten our main characters up to the low to mid-50 level range and we're starting to gather our first set pieces and prepping for the endgame. And the amazing part is that even though I knew each of these guys for 10 years or more before I started playing WoW, we've really developed an even greater trust of one another through our shared game experience. How cool is that?

In addition to having a toon on Staghelm (Antoniolo, the rogue in the middle of the picture above), I started up a Tauren druid on the Whisperwind server named Amura. I made her specifically so I could join The Pod People, a guild made up of fans of various WoW podcasts. I've had a great time with TPP - guildies are generous and helpful, and the guild is active and subscribes to the "live and let live" philosophy. Plus the guild events, both scheduled and spontaneous, have been incredibly fun!

Lately I've been trying get all of the Fantastic 5 to join me in The Pod People. Since the Alliance sister guild of The Pod People (The Escape Pods) is only open to members of TPP in good standing, my hope is to set my group up so that when Blizzard announces that server transfers are a go, we can move en masse to Whisperwind and join The Escape Pods with little muss and fuss. Most of them have been pretty disillusioned with our current guild, despite the fact that it's one of the big raiding guilds on our server, so two of the group have relented to my persistent badgering, and one has promised to make a toon tonight. Only one more left!
